Reports reached the News1st Desk that animals in large numbers have died in close proximity to the Metigaththa Tank Reserve in Hambantota.
Our correspondent based in Hambantota, Roshan Ranatunga, entered the Metigaththa Tank reserve, to look into the issue.
Chief Wildlife Reserve Ranger for Hambantota, W.M.A.Gunathunga speaking to News1st said that a certain poisonous substance may have been mixed with the water in the tank.
Wildlife officers have been dispatched to the location to investigate the matter.
If a poisonous substance has been mixed with the tank water, it poses a threat to all wild animals that come to the tank in search of water.
