The teaching faculty of Rajarata University has decided to suspend their lectures in response to death threats from students. Vice-Chancellor Professor Ranjith Wijewardane stated that the University Lecturers Union had informed him about this move in writing.
He added, however, that the four faculties shut down thus far will be reopened on Monday in response to student requests.
Professor Wijewardane also mentioned that first-year students admitted to the Faculty of Management Studies will be informed later of the reopening date of their faculty.
The crisis began when a group of students held the Vice-Chancellor and the teaching faculty hostage in the vice-chancellor’s office, demanding that the lecture attendance ban placed on several students be lifted.
