The National Child Protection Authority says that information has come to light on over two thousand (2000) persons who are attempting to abuse children through the internet.
The authority says that six such individuals have been arrested during investigations.
The National Child Protection Authority further said that several professionals including government workers are among those arrested. According to the authority, this group has been arrested during investigations carried out by the Internet Surveillance Unit.
The National Child Protection Authority request the public to provide information on such wrongdoers using the hotline 1929.
Chairperson of the authority, Attorney-at-Law Anoma Dissanayake said that one such individual was arrested on Friday afternoon.
