President Mahinda Rajapaksa leaves for Seychelles

Ending his official tour in the Maldives, President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Friday morning departed for Seychelles.

According to the Presidential Spokesperson and International Media Unit, President Rajapaksa had held discussions on a number of topics with his Maldivian counterpart, Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom, during which they reached several decisions..

Furthermore, Sri Lanka and the Maldives also entered into three new bi-lateral cooperation agreements.

The President also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon at the Kurumba Maldives Resort .

During their meeting the foreign minister said there is room for improved relations between the two nations.The Minister of Defence for Maldives Colonel Mohomad Nazeem had also sought Sri Lanka’s assistance to provide knowledge and training to develop the defense service in the Maldives.

The President is scheduled to meet with President James Michelle of Seychelles and top government officials during his visit there.
