The Women for Rights Organisation held a demonstration opposite the Consumer Affairs Authority on Monday
The protesters charged that although the retail price for milk powder in the world market has been reduced, the savings have not been passed onto the Sri Lankan consumer.
Co-Chairperson of Women for Rights, Samanmali Gunasena expressed following views,
“The government is giving the benefit of this price reduction to the treasury. The government is holding onto these savings without passing it onto the people so they can sustain their large cabinet and hold exhibitions. “
He added: “We demand that the savings of the reduction of the price of milk powder in the world market be passed on to the Sri Lankan consumer, immediately.”
The protesters dispersed after about an hour.
