Two suspects have been arrested for the possession of two firearms and 100 kilogrammes of venison in the Kaudulla National Park.
Officer in Charge of the Kaudulla National Park, W.J.K. Herath said that four more suspects had fled the area.
The Sambhur Deer is a vulnerable species facing risk of being endangered and has been red-listed. The suspects were arrested early Thursday morning during a raid carried out as a result of the rise in the activity of poachers.
The OIC said that the suspects who were arrested are due to be produced before the Medirigiriya Magistrate Court.
