The determination of the case filed in the Supreme Court pertaining to a mother and a daughter who were arrested in Kilinochchi without detention orders has been postponed to June 27.
The case was filed by Balendra Jayakumari, a resident of Kilinochchi, and her fifteen-year-old daughter Balendra Vibushika. The mother and the daughter were arrested on March 13 in connection to providing lodging for an individual connected to the LTTE.
The respondents had filed the case in the Supreme Court on the 7th of last month citing that through the arrest their fundamental rights had been violated. Balendra Jayakumari is currently being detained at the Boossa detention camp while her daughter Balendra Vibushika is in probationary care.
The counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioners had requested that the detention orders that are yet to be presented to court, be presented. However, the state counsel representing the Attorney General’s Department requested court to postpone proceedings of the case as he was unable to attend court proceedings.
The case was postponed till June 27.
