Speaking at an event held on Wednesday Democratic Party Leader Sarath Fonseka, commented on his party’s voter base.

He shared the following views:

You cannot underestimate a voter base of about one million. Whether it is a general election or a presidential elections, no one can forge ahead by disregarding our strength. I believe even the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna has a voter base of about six million strong. With the exception of the two main parties, there are about 1.5 million votes floating amongst us. Politicians who are dreaming of changing the constitution and remaining in power for life are feeling a cold chill now. They are feverish. They will not be able to create their dreamland and continue to harness power by forgetting the people who are rallying around us.”

Letters of appointment were presented at an event held at the Democratic Party Headquarters on Wednesday to 18 electorate organisers and co-organisers in the Uva Province and four provincial council candidates.
