The body of a student who was reported missing after going for a bath in the Nuwara Wewa tank in Anuradhapura was recovered on Tuesday.
Aruna Dilantha Seneviratne, 16, had left home Monday morning saying that he was going to school.
His body was found Tuesday morning on the Nuwara Wewa tank bed.
The victim was a Grade 11 student of the Walisinghe Harischandra Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura and was to sit the Ordinary Level examination this year.
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said 15 students from two leading schools in Anuradhapura had gone to bathe in the Nuwara Wewa tank during school hours.
Aruna Dilantha, a resident from Pubudupura, also drowned while bathing.
Despite the efforts of the diving team comprising Anuradhapura Police and locals to locate the the missing student, only the boy’s lifeless body was discovered by a fisherman at 8.15 a.m.
Our correspondent said that the body of Aruna Dilantha has been handed over to his relatives.
