In the wake of the incessant rains that commenced on Sunday, several parts of the Colombo and Gampaha districts have gone under water.
Speaking to Newsfirst Monday morning the Met. Department warned of further thundershowers during the day and requested the public to vigilant of the strong lightening that is being experienced.
The Met. Department says due to the convergence of wind flow showery weather will occur in the western, Sabaragamuwa, and central provinces and in Galle and Matara district.
Heavy rainfall (more than 100m.m.) can be expected at some places thundershowers will develop at several places in the Uva , north central and eastern provinces during the afternoon or evening.
Fairly strong winds can be expected along the western slopes of the central hills at times. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
