A guard at a level crossing in Aluthwewa, Shrawasthipura in Anuradhapura, was dismembered after being hit by a train

The police say that the guard had lost an arm and a foot in the incident. He was admitted to the Anuradhapura Hospital and underwent surgery but doctors were not able to save his limbs.

The victim is a thirty-seven-year-old resident of Aluthwewa, Shrawasthipura.

Meanwhile, three people were killed in a road accident that occurred in Aralaganwila, early Monday morning.

Police Media Spokesperson, SSP Ajith Rohana says the accident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. Monday, in the Maguldamana area in the Aralaganwila Police Division. Eight people were injured in the accident.

The accident occurred when a truck carrying a group of people from a wedding reception in Mahiyanganaya, veered off the road and collided with a tree.

Police suspect that the accident occurred as a result of the driver falling asleep at the wheel.
