Speaking to News1st during the Sirasa TV Prime Time News Bulletin at 7 p.m  Attorney at Law Sunil Watagala  expressed the following views on police officers being assaulted .
I witnessed a news item that was aired on the  new bulletin on Sirasa TV. After taking into consideration the content of the news item, one might think where is the law of the land ? It is clear that a certain group has taken the law into their hands. They are the politicians. Take into consideration the incident that took place in Kurunegala. We noticed that that there was an invisible force behind that incident. This is indeed a tragic situation. Where is the law of this country heading to. The police is there to protect the people. However, the politicians are forcing the police, that is there to protect the people, to kneel before them. Ultimately the people will be made to kneel. We need to state clearly to them, do not use the law of the land according to your whims and fancies. Let the law operate as the law
”
