The Railway Control Room states that they are experiencing a delay in clearing the railway line from Bandarawela to Badulla.
Speaking to Newsfirst Friday morning, Asanga Dharmasena, assistant district engineer of the Nanu-oya area, stated it was difficult to clear the railway line due to the size of the boulders that have fallen on the line.
Dharmasena stated that approximately 20 feet of the railway line had been cleared, with about 20 feet more left to be cleared.
He added that the main difficulty was clearing the boulders at the location, which comprises a steep precipice at the end of which a village was located.
It was also noted that a further three days would be required to completely clear the railway line.
However, the Railways Department will require a clearance from the National Building Research Organization in order to re-commence activity on that part of the line.
