The Health Ministry says they have identified 35 MOH Divisions that are at high risk of the spread of Dengue.
Dr. Paba Palihawadana, director of the epidemiology unit at the ministry, said that many of the identified divisions are in the Western Province.
Sixty percent of Dengue patients have been reported from the Western Province. A rapid spread of Dengue has been identified in the Dehiwala, Ratmalana, Kolonnawa, Boralesgamuwa, Moratuwa and Borella MOH divisions in the Colombo district.
Meanwhile, Dr. Paba Palihawadana said that Dengue is also spreading rapidly in the Gampaha, Mahara, Kelaniya, Ja-ela and Wattala MOH divisions in the Gampaha district, and in the Horana and Panadura MOH divisions in the Kalutara district.
Meanwhile, Ranjith Somawansa, health minister of the Western Province said that a programme to eradicate Dengue has commenced in collaboration with all local governing institutions in the province.
He further said that they have planned to carry out Dengue eradication programmes in schools on Mondays and Thursdays.
