President Rajapaksa and Indian President Mukherjee met for bilateral discussions on Tuesday afternoon at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi, India, where President Mukherjee exchanged pleasantries with president Rajapaksa.
According to a release from the Presidential International Media Unit, the two leaders discussed matters of mutual concern for both nations. President Rajapaksa described the steps Sri Lanka has taken with regard to development and the ongoing process of reconciliation in the country.
President Mukherjee commenting on the Indian housing project, involving the the construction of 43,000 housing units for IDPs in the Northern and Eastern provinces said that about 10,000 new houses were built during 2013, 16,000 more houses are expected to be completed during the course of 2014, and the remaining houses will be completed during 2015.
The Indian President recalled his visit to Sri Lanka in early 2009 as then India’s External Affairs Minister.
