Speaking at an event held in Mahawa on Tuesday, Chief Minister of the North Western Province, Dayasiri Jayasekara said the government is not bound to provide employment for graduates.

“Remember that the government is not bound to provide employment for graduates. It is not the government’s job to provide employment for graduates. It is the government’s job to create graduates. Devising a method to secure employment is a responsibility for all of us. It is wrong to ask the government to provide a job for a graduate. “

He added “Every year, 2500, 3000 or 4000 students exit the school system. You can see the problem we face in recruiting all of them to government jobs. It has come to a situation where graduates who were given jobs in the Divisional Secretariats are loitering around unable to carry out their jobs or with nothing to do at work. The problem cannot be solved in this way.”
