Archaeological Excavations in the Kalthora area in Balangoda have reportedly unearthed what is believed to be the city of Chandana Grama which is mentioned in the Mahavamsa.
Professor Raj Somadeva of the Post Graduate Institute of Archaeology at the University of Kelaniya, says that 90 percent of the evidence that has been found indicates that this is indeed the site of the lost city of Chandana Grama. An Archaeological dig is currently underway in the Kalthota area, about 30 kilometres from Balangoda.
Professor Raj Somadeva of the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology at the University of Kelaniya says that numerous rock caves and Shila Lekana were discovered at this location where the plain meets the southern face of the central hills.
These researchers are disregarding the dangers in their earnest search for information on an ancient history that has been buried without a trace by the sands of time – to present this knowledge to future generations.
The expedition headed by Professor Raj Somadeva has also been successful in unearthing about eleven historic Shila Lekana.
