President Mahinda Rajapaksa has invited Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran to join in the delegation to India for the swearing in ceremony of Narendra Modi.

India’s Prime Minister Designate Narendra Modi is to be sworn in as Prime Minister of India on May 26. Meanwhile, Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran has rejected the invitation and declined to join in the delegation to India.

He has noted in his letter to  Foreign Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris,  the reason for his refusal.
I cannot accept your warm welcome. If I do, it may appear  that a strong solidarity exists between the Central Government and Northern Province. The continuous presence of military forces in Northern Province make people live in a ‘swither’ situation. If I accept this invitation, it could hide the fact. However, I have already extended my wishes to Narendra Modi through the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.
