A teacher attached to a prominent school in Colombo o4 died after hanging himself in the hostel of the school.

The body was found based on information received by the Police Emergency Unit.

The wife of the deceased had telephoned him the previous night. As he had not responded she had later informed another teacher in school.

The body was discovered upon inspection of the school hostel by another teacher.

A teacher at the school expressed the following views:

“He had not signed in on Tuesday so everyone thought he was on leave. The master had come in the night to check on him. The body was discovered at around 11 p.m. yesterday when his room was checked ”

Police stated that the deceased was a thirty-seven-year-old resident of Kuliyapitiya

A relative of the deceased said: “He spoke with his children over the phone on Monday evening as well. He calls everyday in the morning around 7.30 to find out whether the children went to school. On Tuesday he did not call, so we looked into it. We are not sure if whether someone did something ..”

The Fort Magistrate carried out the magisterial inquiry. The body was later taken to the police mortuary.
