President Mahinda Rajapaksa left for China on Monday night to attend the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia or CICA.
President’s Spokesperson and International Media Unit said that the conference is set to commence in Shanghai on Tuesday. The theme of this year’s conference is Increasing dialogue, mutual trust and collaboration to build a new Asia that is peaceful, stable and cooperative.
President Rajapaksa is scheduled to address the conference on Tuesday.
CICA consists of 23 member states.
Sri Lanka holds “observer state” status along with Bangladesh, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Qatar, Ukraine and the United States.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is also scheduled to attend the conference this year.
During the visit, President Rajapaksa is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with several other heads of state who will be in China for the conference.
