Sri Lanka celebrates Victory Day

The fifth Victory Day celebrations will be held today.

The chief celebrations in lieu of Victory Day will be held Sunday morning in Matara under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Over 7,000 personnel representing the three forces – police and civil security forces will participate in the parade to be held to commemorate the war heroes who perished in the thirty-year war.

Army Media spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said that the parade will consist of three parts. Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that a special traffic plan will be implemented in Matara on Sunday as well in lieu of the Victory Day celebrations.
