President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his Vesak day message says that the Teaching of the Buddha is the greatest message of peace to the world.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his Vesak Message said,

We celebrate the triple festival of Vesak that commemorates the Birth, Enlightenment and Parinirvana of the Buddha with state sponsorship that marks the great veneration and devotion of the people.

The President said that all divisions based on race, religion, caste, and tribe are wholly meaningless and a person’s stature is best measured by one’s good or bad conduct.

The head of state also highlighted that Buddhism has shown the world that while anger and hatred are causes for sorrow, Karuna – compassion and Maithri – loving kindness is the path to contentment.

President Rajapaksa concluded his Vesak message with the words :

Let us in this season of Vesak, resolve with the least delay, to gather an abundance of merit for this world and the next.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe in his Vesak day Message stated that this Vesak season will be ideal to observe if the society is living by the four main principles of Buddhism namely; Meththa, Karuna, Muditha and Upeksha.

The Opposition Leader further noted in his message for Vesak that if an individual lived by the teachings and principles of Buddhism, there will be no violence or hatred within the society.

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe pointed out in his message that if there ever exists a shortcoming within the society, it could only be corrected by focussing on adopting the proper principles and that hate could only be overcome by kindness.
