His brothers will seek vengeance – says family of slain Peliyagoda Councillor

Police say that the postmortem examination of UPFA Peliyagoda Urban Councilor Chamila Sandaruwan was conducted on Tuesday.

Chamila Sandaruwan was shot dead on Monday.

UPFA Peliyagoda Urban Councillor, twenty-three-year-old Chamila Sandaruwan was shot dead at around 11.15 on Monday morning.

The shooting took place at a location around 100 metres away from the Tyre Junction on the Old Kandy Road , towards Keleniya. The assassins who had arrived on a motorcyle had shot the councillor, killing him and injuring another. Police said that the body of the late Chamila Sandaruwan was handed over to the relatives on Monday.

Speaking of her son’s murder, the mother of the victim said:

“My son was to be appointed mayor. They killed him before he was made mayor. Those at the Council banded up and killed him. He was to be made mayor after the 16th . Before that they killed him.”

A relative of the victim said:

“He has two brothers. The brothers of the victim will seek vengeance from the killers because they cannot bear this sorrow. Then they will be branded as murderers. We want those two children to be spared.”

Meanwhile, Prabath Madushanka Pahanwala who was injured in the shooting continues to receive treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.
