Padaviya woman ‘in love’ remanded for allegedly torturing her child

A woman arrested on suspicion of allegedly torturing her six year old daughter, along with her lover, has been placed in remand custody on the orders of the Kebithigollewa Magistrate’s Court.

The Kebithigollewa District Judge and Magistrate, Raja Srimevan Mahendrarajah has ordered the woman in question to be held in remand custody till May 21.

The woman in question had been allegedly having an extra marital love affair with a soldier residing in the same area, and had reportedly tortured her  daughter when she had turned out to be an obstacle to their relationship.

The six year old daughter of the suspect had been seen crying on the road, and a neighbour on seeing her had informed one of her relatives. The child had then revealed the situation to the relative who had informed the police of the incident.

The Padaviya Police had later arrested the woman who was produced before courts on Tuesday.

The court had ordered the Padaviya Police to also arrest the soldier with whom the suspect had been allegedly having an extra marital love affair. According to reports the father of the child is said to be working in a distant area.
