Former Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake refused to plead guilty or not guilty when the case pertaining to asset and liability was taken up at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Appearing on behalf of Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake President’s Counsel Attorney-at-Law Nalin Lad-duwahetty submitted to court that the prosecution had obstructed the gathering of evidence by the defence in relation to the computers at a private bank.
President’s Counsel Ladduwahetty further noted that a defendant should be asked if guilty or not guilty of a charge following thorough examination of the case.
The magistrate who accepted this stand, granted the defence time to inspect the machines and gather the relevant evidence.
The case has been postponed to May 20.
