Special police security has been provided to the Matale General Hospital owing to conflicts that have arisen between nurses and midwives.
Police said that security was provided since Saturday following a request made by the Director of the Hospital. The police explained that this measure was taken to avoid clashes due to the trade union action launched between nurses and midwives.
Accordingly a few additional police officers have been placed on duty at the hospital for the past twenty four.
