The Ministry of Technology and Research says that plans have been made to use nuclear radiation to combat Dengue in Sri Lanka
Issuing a communique, the Ministry says they expect to control the Dengue mosquito population through the use of this technology that is named as the Sterile Insect technique. The male Dengue mosquito will be made sterile through the use of this technique.
The communique also notes that the project which will be in effect as a pilot project until 2017, will have the participation of the countries of Switzerland, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Tobago, China, Thailand and Pakistan.
The inaugural session of this project, started off in Colombo on Tuesday, with the participation of a team of experts and representatives of ten member countries of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
