The President of the United Nations General Assembly John Williams Ashe who is currently in the country for the World Conference on Youth 2014, met President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Wednesday.
According to the Presidential Media Unit, the meeting took place at Temple Trees.
The Media Unit added that the President of UNGA had praised the progress achieved by post-conflict Sri Lanka. UNGA President Ashe had also praised the President’s speech, addressing the gathering at the inaugural session of the WCY 2014, and also noted that the development in the country is clearly evident.
The Presidential Media Unit also added that President Rajapaksa had mentioned during the meeting that Sri Lanka has achieved a clear progress following the conclusion of the war that lasted three decades.
The President also added that after China, Sri Lanka is one of the South Asian countries that is heading towards a rapid development.
