Landslide warning to continue as Met Dept. predicts thundershowers

The Disaster Management Centre says that the landslide warning issued for the Kandy, Matale, Badulla and Kegalle Districts, will remain in effect, until 7 a.m. Friday.

The Crossway Bridge located along the Puttalam Mannar Road, via Eluvankulama was under two feet of water on Thursday.

Meanwhile, When News1st contacted the Department of Meteorology with regard to the prevailing weather conditions, it stated that rainfall of 100 mm. can be expected in certain parts of the country today.

The Met Department also stated that showers or thundershowers can be experienced in several areas during the afternoon and night. The Department further stated that the Southwesterly or variable winds will be experienced adding that wind speeds of 20-30 kmph could be expected.

It was also stated that there may be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers.
