Trade union action spreads – Kurunegala midwife alleges assault

The Government Midwifery Service Association charges that a midwife attached to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital was assaulted on Wednesday night by a group of nurses who are also attached to the Hospital.

The midwife who was allegedly assaulted is receiving treatment at Ward  No. 5 of the hospital. The trade union action launched by the nurses at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital continued on Thursday.

The nurses are accused of assaulting a midwife attached to the hospital on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, the News1st Correspondent who visited the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital on Thursday morning to cover the trade union action was obstructed from carrying out his duties by the nurses.

On Tuesday, doctors at the Kalutara General Hospital stepped away from their duties in a mark of protest against the entry of a group of nursing students to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology ward of the hospital. Meanwhile, the nursing staff of the Kalutara General Hospital stepped away from their duties n Thursday and staged a demonstration opposite the hospital.
