Police Headquarters state that 2700 people have committed suicide within the year 2013.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that out of the total number, 80% are males.

Many cases of suicide are reported as hanging and others include consuming insecticides and pesticides.

Police Media Spokesperson further said that aiding someone to commit suicide is also considered a crime.
