A mother and son were killed in an accident that occurred on the Dambulla- Kekirawa road in the Matugama area on Thursday morning.

The accident had occurred when the motorcycle on which the victims were travelling on had collided head-on with a lorry. They were travelling from Dambulla to Kekirawa.

According to our correspondent. the two victims had been heading home after visiting the father who was receiving treatment at the Dambulla Base Hospital.

Indrani Seneviratne aged 48, a resident of Madegama, Kekirawa was a mother of two.

Prabuddha Seneviratne was twenty one years old at the time of his demise. The police say the driver of the lorry had fled the scene after the accident.

The lorry was later seized with the intervention of the Dambulla Police.  Police say that the driver of the lorry has been arrested.
