Sri Lanka clinched an emphatic victory with 6 wickets to spare at the finals of the ICC World T20 played against rivals India in Dhaka on Sunday.
This is the first time in history Sri Lanka has ever won a T20world cup title.
Meanwhile, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena signed off from T20 cricket bringing home the ICC World T20 cup title.
Winning the toss, the Sri Lankans elected to field first.
Rohit Sharma and Ajinky Rahane opened the innings for the Indians.
Ajinky Rahane was the first wicket to fall as he was dismissed for just 3 runs by Angelo Mathews.
India Batsman Virat Kohli top scored for the team and was named as the player of the tournament at the
conclusion of the ICC World T20, 2014 played in Bangladesh after posting 77 runs at the final encounter on Sunday.
Rohit Sharma and Yuvaraj Singh chipped in with 29 and 11 runs respectively.
India were 130 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their allotted 20overs.
Chasing a target of 131 runs to Win, Kusal Perera and Tilakaratne Dilshan opened the innings for the Sri Lankans.
Kusal Perera scattered hopes for the Sri lankans as he was undone for just 5 runs.
Former Captain Kumar Sangakkara top scored for the team with 51 runs and placed yet another imprint on Sri lanka cricket, before signing off from T20 cricket.
Also, Mahela Jayawardena managed to post 24 runs before heading back to the dresser.
Tisara Perera and Tilakaratne Dilshan chipped in with 23 and 18 runs respectively to the Winning score.
Thereby, Sri Lanka posted 134 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 17.5 overs at the Finals of the ICC World T20 encounter to clinch the T20World Cup title 2014.
