Isura Madushan and Chamika Sandaruwan from Davisamara Vidyalaya in Seeduwa on Saturday qualified for the Youth Olympics. They excelled in volleyball.

The students qualified for the main stage when they made it into the top four teams at the selections for the Asian region.

The second youth Olympic will be held in Nanjing, China in August.

For action from the Inter-school school cricket encounters, up next is big match fever.

The 85th Battle of the Maroons between Ananda College , Colombo and Nalanda College, Colombo ended in a draw on Saturday.

Batting at the R. Premadasa Grounds in Colombo, Ananda College posted 170 runs in their first innings.In reply Nalanda College were on 248 runs for the loss of five when play was stopped due to rain.

Malinga Amarasinghe of Nalanda College, was unbeaten on 90. Meanwhile, the 51st Big Match encounter between Thursan College, Colomob and Isipathana College , Colombo also ended in a draw on Saturday.

Batting first at the SSC Grounds in Colombo, Thursday College posted 240 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their first essay.

When rain stopped play, Isipathana College were on 136 runs for the loss of six wickets in their first innings. The big match encounter between Methodists High School, Piliyandala and Shastrananda Vidyalaya, Dehiwala also ended in a ‘no result’ on Saturday.

The match was played at the De Zoysa Grounds in Moratuwa. The lads from Dehiwala were chasing a target of 81 runs, when rain stopped play.
