United National Party activists in the Gampaha District have expressed their displeasure over the manner in which the UNP has allocated posts in the Western Provincial Council following the provincial council polls.

UNP Activist, Chandana Wijeratne expressed the following views:

Harshana Rajakaruna secured the highest number of preferential votes from the UNP in the Gampaha District. He should be given the post of Opposition Leader. In my opinion, the Leadership Council and the party leader are hinting at us to leave the party. In light of this, we will be compelled to leave the party in the future.

The Leadership Council and the Leader of the Party need to take a serious decision about this. At the last Parliamentary Elections , Buddhika Pathirana polled the highest number of preferential votes in the Matara District for the UNP. Yet, he was not given the post of Group Leader of the district.

However, Mangala Samaraweera, who had been working to destroy the party for a long period of time, was appointed as the district leader of Matara. This sort of actions, bears testament to the fact that the leader and the leadership council want to appoint their henchmen to positions and further reduce the party’s voter base.”
