V. Krishnamoorthy, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, says a total of 31 Sri Lankans have died in Saudi Arabia in the year 2014.
Krishnamoorthy made this statement in response to inquiries made by Newsfirst regarding an article published in Arab News.
The gulf based news agency reported on its website Tuesday that the remains of around 20 Sri Lankans are lying in mortuaries in Saudi Arabia and are yet to be returned to Sri Lanka.
Quoting a spokesperson at the Sri Lanka Economic Association, Arab News said that an average of one death is reported every day outside Sri Lanka.
Newsfirst has several times reported on instances where the remains of Sri Lankans who passed away in Saudi Arabia were brought to the country several days later.
