Ceylon Newspapers Private Limited in a letter of demand through Attorney-at-Law G.G. Arulpragasam, has demanded a sum of Rs.500 million  from Lanka Market Research Bureau Private Limited, for loss and damages incurred.

Ceylon Newspapers Private Limited, the publisher of two daily newspapers and two Sunday newspapers, claims that Lanka Market Research Bureau Private Limited or LMRB, which publishes readership figures of newspapers and circulate this publication to advertising agencies, had been negligent in the release of readership figures in the reports published in 2012 and 2013 for the four newspapers published by Ceylon Newspapers Private Limited.

Through the letter of demand, Ceylon Newspapers Private Limited also claims that in the reports of 2012 and 2013, LMRB had recorded readership figures for unpublished publications, recorded daily readership figures for a Sunday newspaper, recorded readership figures for a daily newspaper – that contrast significantly with the research of AC Neilsen – a leading and reputed research agency in the world.

Ceylon Newspapers Private Limited further claims that Lanka Market Research Bureau Private Limited had at all times acted with mala fides against Ceylon Newspapers Private Limited.

Based on independent reports by other leading, reputed research agencies, further complaints could be expected by other institutes as well.

Lanka Market Research Bureau Private Limited, voluntarily stopped issuing of television ratings on December  31, 2012.
