This victory was more a victory for truth and justice than a personal victory for me, says Hirunika Premchandra.
Speaking to Newsfirst, Hirunika Premchandra who won the highest number of preferential votes in the Colombo District, expressed this view.
She also said: “This victory was more a victory for truth and justice than a personal victory for me. The people got to know me after my father’s demise. I did not commence my engagement with politics by distributing things to people. Every preferential vote I received, was because of the love they had for my father. We are all aware of the vice and corruption that is rampant in the Kolonnawa Electorate. I have a responsibility to rebuild the Kolonnawa Electorate.”
She added: “I will ensure that I do everything as legitimately possible for the people of the Colombo District within the Provincial Council. That is my responsibility. No matter how many roads and buildings are built, it will all be pointless if our attitudes do not change. It is my hope as one of their leaders to change the attitudes of the youth and bring forth a group that loves their country, society, religion and community and people who are willing to do something for their country. “
