Police say eighteen arrests made with regard to alleged election law violations

The police say that 18 arrests were made during the course of the day on Saturday in relation to violations of election laws.

The Police Media Spokesperson said two persons were arrested over Friday’s incident in Matara, where an Assistant Elections Commissioner was allegedly assaulted.

The police received 15 complaints on Saturday pertaining to election law violations.

Meanwhile, the Elections Secretariat says that it received 88 complaints on Saturday, regarding various incidents of violations of election laws. The National Complaints Inquiry Centre at the Elections Secretariat said 32 of these complaints were lodged from the Gampaha District.

The Secretariat added that it received 20 complaints from Colombo, eleven complaints from Kalutara, 13 complaints from Galle, 9 complaints from Matara and three complaints from Hambantota.
