A bear which was receiving treatment in the Kokmote area at the Wilpattu National Reserve passed away after efforts proved to be fruitless.
Veterinary physician in charge of the North Western division of Anuradhapura, Dr. Chandana Jayasinghe said that the bear had been infirm for about a week before it passed away on Thursday evening.
The wildlife officials of the Wilpattu National Park had taken the infirm bear for treatment to a Veterinary Unit of the Wildlife Conservation Authority located in Pandalugana Anuradhapura.
Dr. Chandana Jayasinghe says that the bear would have been injured in a wrestle with another animal.
The efforts of the officials of the veterinary unit of Pandulagama were in vain as the four-year-old bear later passed away
