At a summit held in Kandy on Thursday, Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa elaborated on the future of the draft resolution presented in Geneva.

Commissioner of  SLHRC, Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa said;

“There is nothing that the Human Rights Council can do. The office of the Human Rights High Commissioner will hand over a report to the Security Council based in New York. This is where the situation becomes serious. The Security Council can impose various sanctions. They can prohibit scholarships and impose economic sanctions in a way that our leaders will not be able to travel to those countries. They will also put a halt to all trade deals, they will blacklist our banks. The Security Council has this power. But it is the end result that is most important. If these countries support us in the Security Council before the end result comes about, then the problem can be solved.”
