Sirasa Superstars to pay tribute late Gamini Fonseka

The 78th birth anniversary of late Gamini Fonseka, a renowned actor, politician, governor and a deputy speaker was commemorated today.

Twelve singers of Sirasa Superstar Season 6 who entered the final round will pay tribute to late Gamini Fonseka and will mark his birth anniversary.

Gamini Fonseka who was born on a day like today in 1936 pursued his primary education at the Presbyterian College in Dehiwala.

Gamini began his career after auditioning for the movie Rekawa in 1956 took the country by storm after starring in movies including Sandheshaya, Ranmuthu Duwe, Getawarayo, Dheewarayo, Gempereliya and Parasathu Mal.

Entering politics in 1989, Gamini Fonseka assumed duties as the Deputy Speaker, functioned as the North Eastern Governor and also served as a Group Director of the Capital Maharaja Organization.

All twelve contestants of Sirasa Superstar are prepared to pay the greatest tribute ever made to a name that is placed firmly on the history books of Lankan cinema and who departed the world of cinema at the age of 68.

Singers of the new generation, the contestants of Sirasa Superstar will sing a rendition of songs featured in movies starred by famous Gamini Fonseka.

This edition of the Sirasa Superstar will be telecast on Sirasa TV at 9 p.m. on Saturday.

On a day when fond memories of a fellow actor will be kindled, Swarna Mallawarachchi is slated to join the panel of judges tomorrow at this special programme.
