Netherland progressed to Group 1 of the ICC World Twenty20 this evening when they stunned Ireland by reaching the set target with a run rate of 13.95 per over.

Batting first Ireland posted a mammoth 189 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Andrew Poynter smashed 57 off 38 deliveries which comprised of 4 big hits over the fence and 4 to the boundary line.

Opener William Porterfield hammered 47 off 32 with 2 sixes and 5 boundaries.

Ahsan Malik bagged 2 wickets for the Irish.

Chasing 189 to win , the got off to a brilliant start with an opening stand of 91 runs between Peter Borren and Stephan Myburgh.

Borren fell on 31 while Myburgh who smashed a fast half century with 7 big hits over the line was dismissed for 68.

Logan Van Beek who came in next was dismissed for one run and the score was 100 for 3 at this stage.

Wesley Baressi and Tom Cooper added more fireworks to the Dutch Assault and guided Netherlands to a resounding 6 wicket win over Ireland with 37 balls to spare.
