Skeletal remains have been discovered in close proximity to the Watadageya in Polonnaruwa during an excavation.
Skeletal remains, believed to be human, was discovered on Tuesday during the construction of a drainage system close to the historical Watadageya in Polonnaruwa.
Head of the Mural Conservators of the Central Cultural Fund, Dias Wagachchi said that the skeletal remains were discovered when excavations were being carried out in the east section of the Watadageya.
The Central Cultural Fund said that investigations are underway to ascertain the identity of the skeletal remains and to which era it belongs to.
