Gampaha woman and students arrested for alleged weapons possession

A gang of four schoolboys and a woman have been arrested when police discovered a stock of weapons including petrol bombs in a house in the Meegahawatte area in Gampaha.

According to the Police Media Unit, one schoolboy and his mother were arrested for possession of the weapons while three other schoolboys were arrested on suspicion as they had been in the house at the time of the arrest.

The gang of schoolboys and the woman were arrested by the Central Anti-Corruption Unit in Panadura-Walana. The police had discovered weapons including eight petrol bombs, a sword, knives, and iron rods in the at the house.

The arrested are residents of the Naranwala area.

The Police Media Unit stated, that the the woman and her son who were arrested for possession of the weapons are to be produced before the Mahara Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, while the three schoolboys arrested on suspicion are to be later released.
