The accident was a result of a head on collision between the Sri Lanka Transport Board Bus travelling from Narammala to Giriulla and a three-wheeler travelling in the opposite direction.

Police believe that the tragedy might have taken place as a result of the driver of the three-wheeler falling asleep. The victims were a group from Ukuwela, Matale who were returning from the Katunayake International Airport together with a youth who had come from abroad.

All four victims who were in their twenties succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. Our correspondent said that among the dead were two brothers.

According to the families of the deceased, one of the victims was the son of a Member of the Ukuwela Pradeshiya Sabha. The bodies of the victims were placed at the Narammala Hospital.

Meanwhile, an accident that took place on Tuesday morning close to the 35th kilometre Post on the Southern Expressway claimed the life of a 1 1/2 year old infant.
