Doctors in the North Central Province have begun a trade union action.
According to the Government Medical Officers Association, the protest is being staged against the provincial health authorities.
The doctors state that the authorities have not taken steps to punish a public health inspector who is acting in an undisciplined manner.
Media spokesperson of the GMOA, Dr. Navin de Zoysa notes that members of their association who are deployed in hospitals in the North Central Province will take part in this trade union action.
According to our correspondent in Anudradhapura, activities of the Out-patient Department of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital were severely hampered.
However, North Central Province Minister of Health, H.B. Semasinghe notes that investigations have been launched against the PHI in question.
