The qualifying matches for the T20 world cup commenced in Bangladesh on Sunday.Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by nine wickets in the first qualifier.
Winning the toss at Mirpur on Sunday, Bangladesh invited Afghanistan to take first lease of the wicket.
A stiff bit of bowling from the Bangladeshis had Afghanistan reeling and they were eventually bowled out for 72 runs in 17.1 overs. Bangladeshi skipper Mushfiwur Rahim faced a minor incident when the last Afghan scalp was picked up, and the ball hit him in the eye.
However, soon after the match, Rahim noted that the injury was not serious. Shakib al Hasan was the pick of the bowlers and ended with figures of 3 for 8.
Abdur Razzak ended with figures of 2 for 20.
The Afghan total today is incidentally the lowest total scored in the history of the T20 world cup.
Bangladesh barely broke a sweat and reached the target within 12 overs losing a solitary wicket.
Anamul Haque was unbeaten on 38. Thameem Iqbal chipped in with 21.
