The UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva has become a hot topic on the campaign stage, ahead of the Provincial Council Elections.
Here is a look at some of the views expressed on the issue.
Leader – Democratic Party, Sarath Fonseka:
“These politicians are molesting children and raping women with impunity but the law is not being enforced against them. That is the situation in the country. If allegations of war crimes are being levelled against our Army then I am ready to take the responsibility on behalf of our war heroes. I am always ready.”
JVP Candidate of the Southern PC, Samantha Vidyaratne:
“There is a man here who can earn money instantly. Who is he? It is I. I can give one telephone call to ***** and tell him that I am crossing over. Do you think I will not get it? These are more valuable than Wallapatta, and can be sold for a good sum. All I have to do is hold a media briefing tomorrow say that the JVP is wrong and that I am crossing over to strangle the people. And then the money would come. Our party does not have the sort of political movement that breeds people like that. We do not have saloon doors, we have a padlocked door. If you are thrown out we will not take you back in. We sent off Weerawansa too, and he will not be let back in.”
