Sri Lanka beats Pakistan to clinch Asia Cup 2014

Sri Lanka clinched the Asia Cup a short while ago  defeating Pakistan in the all important Finals .

A patient century by Lahiru Thirimanne guided Sri Lanka to a five-wicket win.

Winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bat first at the Shere Bangla Stadium.

Slinger Lasith Malinga provided Sri Lanka with a perfect start by bagging three quick wickets.

However, the Pakistani innings were  salvaged by skipper Misbah Ul Haq  and Fawad Alam.

Fawad Alam scored his maiden OID century today and guided Pakistan to a competitive score of 260 for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Misbah Ul Haq and Umar Akmal hammered half centuries.

Lasith Malinga picked up all five Pakistani scalps .

Sri Lanka, who commenced their reply got off to a steady start with an opening stand of 56 runs.

Flamboyant opener Kusal Janith Perera hammered a quick fire 42 runs before being undone by Saeed Ajmal.

Kumar Sangakkara was trapped in front off the very next delivery.

Lahiri Thirimanne and Mahela Jayawardene steadied the Sri Lankan innings with a third wicket stand of 156 runs.

Jayawardene managed to score 74 runs.

However, a patient century by  Thirimanne guided Sri Lanka to victory.
